Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) revealed that conditions in the Java-Bali electricity system are currently still experiencing excess or oversupply. So it is possible to reduce the capacity of Steam Power Plants (PLTU) in the area.
Among the PLTUs that are on the radar for capacity reduction are PLTU Suralaya 1, 2, 3 and 4.
The Director General of Electricity (Dirjen Gatrik) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jisman P Hutajulu, did not deny that there would be a reduction in capacity at the PLTU. However, he could not confirm whether PLTU Suralaya 1, 2, 3 and 4 would be suppressed.
Even if the capacity is reduced, said Jisman, it will not affect the electricity supply side. “That’s not certain, what is certain is that the Java-Bali system is a little oversupplied, so it will be a bit easier when there is one financing For certain generators for PLTU this is not too difficult because they don’t have a system. “We have overcapacity,” said Jisman at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Building, quoted on Friday (27/8/2023).
According to Jisman, if it aims at the contribution target set nationally or Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), then reducing emissions in coal plants must be replaced with plants sourced from renewable energy.
“If it leads to an NDC that reduces emissions, we have to think about it that way. I’m not saying Suralaya because we are still discussing it and there is still no certainty. When one PLTU wants us to reduce its share, they reduce this one’s emissions down, then add more EBT to complete it already,” he said.
