Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Microsoft reportedly succeeded in attracting Amazon.com to use the Microsoft 365 cloud service. The ecommerce giant reportedly paid US$ 1 billion for the subscription.
Reuters reported Amazon.com’s plans to subscribe to Microsoft 365 based on an article in Insider that cited internal documents and several sources familiar with the agreement between the two technology companies.
The deal worth US$ 1 billion or Rp. 15.72 trillion is a subscription fee for around 1 million users for approximately 5 years.
Amazon, the company founded by Jeff Bezos, actually has its own cloud company called AWS (Amazon Web Services). However, AWS does not provide a software-as-a-service platform for office workers like Microsoft 365.
Microsoft declined to respond to questions from Reuters, while Amazon did not respond.
Amazon starts installing Microsoft 365 systems next month. Currently, Amazon employees use Microsoft Office products installed locally on their own servers or on employees’ computers.
According to Research and Markets, The office software market will be worth US$ 24.45 billion in 2022 and is expected to grow to US$ 37.06 billion in 2028.
Microsoft 365’s biggest rival is Google Workspace, which is estimated to control around 50 percent of the total market.
