Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) gave his blessing to Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, who is the vice presidential candidate (bacawapres) to accompany Ganjar Pranowo in the 2024 presidential election. The Head of State also gave him leave once a week for the campaign period.
Mahfud explained the contents of his first meeting with Jokowi at the Presidential Palace, Tuesday (24/10/2023), at 15.30 WIB, after he was declared vice presidential candidate with Ganjar Pranowo last week. He was asked to continue carrying out his daily duties until he was congratulated in person.
“There are general problems that require continuity in daily tasks. Specifically for me as vice presidential candidate, the president congratulates me on being chosen as vice presidential candidate. Hopefully everything goes smoothly,” said Mahfud, quoted from the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs’ YouTube, Tuesday (24/10/ 2023).
Regarding his position in the government cabinet during the campaign period, Mahfud admitted that he received one week and one day of leave.
“If you take part in running, of course you have the right to leave, the right to leave is a week and one day. I have said that in the meantime I will take leave once a week during the campaign season. If it’s a holiday, I don’t use leave,” said Mahfud.
“The President said that the important thing is to protect our duties, to ensure the continuity of the goodness of this nation so that the elections can run peacefully,” he added.
Previously, Mahfud arrived at the Presidential Palace complex at around 15.17 WIB in a black Alphard car with RI 14 plates. Getting out of his car, Mahfud immediately rushed to the palace gate and only answered a few journalists’ questions briefly.
This is Jokowi’s first meeting with Mahfud after advancing as a vice presidential candidate to accompany Ganjar Pranowo on Wednesday (18/10/2023). At that time, Jokowi was on a working visit to China and Saudi Arabia.
