Finally There’s Good News for HP and Laptop Tech Traders – 7 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The smartphone and computer markets will improve again. This news was revealed directly by the boss of chip manufacturer TSMC, CC Wei Dalam earnings call some time ago.

Demand for personal computers and smartphones is known to be two drivers of the company’s business. However, in recent times, both markets have experienced a decline in demand.

Next year, he estimates that demand for cellphones and laptops will recover and have a positive impact on TSMC’s revenue.

“We estimate that 2024 will be a year of healthy growth for TSMC,” said Wei, quoted from Reuters, Wednesday (25/10/2023).

He added, “in recent months, we have seen demand starting to stabilize in the PC and HP markets”.

However, he is reluctant to assume how strong the recovery will be in these two markets. Considering that people are still cautious due to the weakening macro economy and the slow pace of China’s economic recovery.

Wei also touched on Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. He said the soaring demand for technology could encourage an increase in demand for energy-efficient computing.

“The recent surge in demand for AI supports a strong belief that demand for energy-efficient computing will increase,” he explained.

TSMC, he said, had already found customers for 2-nanometre technology. This is state-of-the-art and energy-efficient technology, notes Reuters.

However, Wei also underlined that the challenge of technology development is a matter of cost. Because inflation can increase the price of equipment for making chips.

“I want to reduce costs, so consumers can afford it,” Wei said.
