Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Golkar Party has agreed to nominate Gibran Rakabuming Raka as Prabowo Subianto’s vice presidential candidate in the 2024 presidential election.
Golkar General Chair Airlangga Hartarto said that Indonesia has a long history of having young leaders. He took the example of Sutan Sjahrir, who became prime minister of Indonesia when he was 36 years old.
“Based on the results of the meeting with the DPD chairman last night, all consensus proposed and supported Mas Gibran Rakabuming Raka for us to pair him with Pak Prabowo,” said Airlangga at the Golkar Party National Leadership Meeting, Saturday (21/10/2023).
Gibran’s name has been widely mentioned as a strong candidate for Prabowo Subianto to compete in next year’s political contest.
It was rumored that Gibran would move to the Golkar Party to carry out this plan. He dismissed the news and emphasized that he was still a PDIP cadre.
The news that Gibran wants to become Prabowo’s running mate has certainly reached the ears of PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri. As is known, currently Gibran is a PDIP cadre.
PDIP DPP Chair Eriko Sotarduga said Megawati had so far been relaxed about issues involving Gibran. In fact, he said, Mega did not comment at all at the online inauguration of the DPC Solo office, Monday (16/10).
“Mother also relaxed on Monday. Didn’t even comment,” he said at the Ganjar Winning Team office, quoted from CNN, Sunday (21/10).
