Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The latest Apple iPhone 15 series is not selling well in China. The company founded by Steve Jobs even provides big discounts on online sales platforms.
E-commerce platforms in China including JD.com, PDD Holdings’ Pinduoduo and Alibaba’s Taobao are offering deep discounts. Some online stores even sell the iPhone 15 for 1,501 yuan (Rp. 3.2 million) cheaper than the retail price.
The e-commerce platform’s iPhone 15 discount was first reported by a weekly newspaper Economic Observer on Monday (23/10).
Quote Reuters, analysts say the iPhone 15 has not sold as well as its predecessor in China. Counterpoint Research stated last week that sales of the iPhone 15 in China fell 4.5% compared to the iPhone 14, in the first 17 days after its market launch.
In China, Apple sometimes allows partner vendors to offer discounts to stimulate demand. But e-commerce platforms there are also caught up in “value for money” as consumers reduce their spending amid the economic slowdown.
This e-commerce will provide discounts as the main focus of the upcoming annual Singles Day shopping festival.
JD.com sells the iPhone 15 512 GB for 7,498 yuan (Rp. 16.29 million), 1,501 yuan lower than Apple’s official price of 8,999 yuan (Rp. 19.55 million). The company, which has closed its subsidiary in Indonesia, said this was in line with the strategy launched this year by offering low prices.
Meanwhile, Pinduoduo is offering the 128 GB version of the iPhone 15 Plus at a price of 6,098 yuan (Rp. 13.24 million), 900 yuan cheaper than Apple’s retail price of 6,999 yuan (Rp. 15.2 million).
The iPhone 15 Pro Max 512 GB, which is priced at 11,999 yuan (Rp. 26 million) at the Apple Store, can be purchased for 10,698 yuan (Rp. 23.24 million) on Alibaba’s e-commerce platform, Taobao.
