PlayStation and Xbox Awesome Battles at Las Vegas Tech’s ‘Giant Ball’ – 1 hour ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Microsoft and Sony are competing to launch promotions at The Sphere. The sophisticated ball-shaped building in Las Vegas alternately displays cool Playstation and Xbox visuals.

According to The Verge, Sony and Microsoft spend thousands of US dollars advertising on The Sphere. The reason is, the giant building, which was built with funds of US$ 2.3 billion (Rp. 36.69 trillion), is currently trending on social media after the U2 concert went viral.

U2, an Irish band, was the first performer at The Sphere which opened last month. The sophistication of The Sphere, whose entire surface inside and out, can function as a giant screen.


Microsoft used the outer surface of The Sphere to showcase its latest Xbox marketing campaign last Thursday. The next day, Sony used The Sphere to promote its newest video game title Spider-Man 2.

According to The Verge, Sony and Microsoft paid US$ 450 thousand (around Rp. 7.2 billion) to fill the outside of The Sphere with Xbox advertising.

Microsoft worked with BCN Visuals to display a 3D video that filled the entire giant ball. The visuals displayed are similar to Microsoft advertisements in Times Square, New York. One of the segments shows the Xbox game controller appearing to come out of the screen.

Microsoft advertisements also appear on the sidelines of live broadcasts of American Football matches and are planned to appear throughout the world until the Christmas holidays at the end of the year.

Sony’s promotional visual appeared a day later on The Sphere in the form of 90 seconds of Spider-Man 2 content. Like the Xbox controller, Spider-Man 2 promotions also feature content that jumps off the screen. This time, it’s Venom.

Sony and Microsoft featured promotions at The Sphere in conjunction with video game social media conference Twitch, dubbed Twitchcon.
