Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Gerindra Party held a National Leadership Meeting at The Darmawangsa Jakarta, Monday (23/10/2023). The meeting was held a day after Gerindra Party Chairman Prabowo Subianto announced Solo Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka as his running mate for vice president.
Deputy Chairperson of the Gerindra Rahayu Party, Saraswati Djojohadikusumo, said that today’s national meeting will discuss Gibran who was nominated as Prabowo’s vice presidential candidate.
“Usually the meeting agenda is not leaked, but it is most likely related to what was conveyed last night,” said Rahayu when met at the national meeting location.
He said that the Gerindra Party had completely handed over the vice presidential election to Prabowo. However, he emphasized that the party still has a mechanism, that the chosen vice presidential candidate must be announced and approved by party members.
He said he didn’t know whether Gibran would come or not at this national meeting. However, he hopes Gibran can attend.
“We young people are really looking forward to it,” he said.
Based on the agenda, the National Rapimnas of the Gerindra Party will be held from 09.00 WIB. Apart from Rahayu, a number of Gerindra leaders appeared to be present, such as Deputy Chair of the Gerindra Party Advisory Board Dedi Mulyadi and Deputy Secretary General of Gerindra Andre Rosiade.
Previously, Prabowo officially announced Gibran as the vice presidential candidate who would accompany him. Gibran is the mayor of Surakarta and the eldest son of President Joko Widodo.
Gibran’s name was announced after a meeting of the general chairmen of Prabowo’s Advanced Indonesia Coalition (KIM) party in Kartanegera, Sunday (22/10/2023) evening.
“We have had final discussions by consensus, everyone agreed to nominate Prabowo Subianto as president of KIM, for 2024-2029, and brother Gibran Rakabuming Raka as vice presidential candidate for KIM,” said Gerindra Chairman Prabowo Subianto.
“I think so. The announcement that we have been waiting for, this is also a declaration that we are conveying to the general public and on the 25th, Wednesday we will register with the KPU,” he said.
