If we look at his track record in the world of politics, Gibran has experience as Mayor of Solo, Central Java, for the period 2021-2024. His only track record in the world of politics also invites pros and cons regarding his candidacy as Vice President.
Apart from political track records, one of the things that is investigated regarding presidential and vice presidential candidates is assets, including how much salary they receive from their current position.
So, what is Gibran’s salary and allowances as Mayor of Solo?
Until now, the mayor’s salary is regulated in Government Regulation (PP) Number 59 of 2000 concerning Financial/Administrative Rights of Regional Heads/Deputy Regional Heads/and Former Regional Heads/Former Deputy Regional Heads and Their Widows/Widowers.
Based on the PP, the mayor’s basic salary is IDR 2.1 million per month. For the record, this value does not include allowances.
Meanwhile, mayoral allowances are regulated in Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 68 of 2001 concerning Position Allowances for Certain State Officials. According to the Presidential Decree, the mayor’s allowance is IDR 3.78 million per month.
“The amount of allowance for the position of State Official as referred to in paragraph (1) for Regency/City Regional Heads is IDR 3,780,000 (three million seven hundred and eighty thousand rupiah),” wrote the Presidential Decree, quoted Monday (23/10/2023).
In addition, the mayor is entitled to receive regional operational allowances. The amount of this allowance is determined based on Original Regional Income (PAD) and is regulated in PP Number 109 of 2000 concerning the Financial Position of Regional Heads and Deputy Regional Heads.
Below are details of the mayor’s operational support costs.
- PAD up to IDR 5 billion: the lowest operational allowance is IDR 125 million and the highest is 3 percent
- PAD above IDR 5 billion to IDR 10 billion: minimum operational allowance of IDR 150 million and maximum of 2 percent
- PAD above IDR 10 billion to IDR 20 billion: minimum operational allowance of IDR 200 million and maximum of 1.50 percent
- PAD above IDR 20 billion to IDR 50 billion: minimum operational allowance of IDR 300 million and maximum of 0.80 percent

According to data from the Central Statistics Agency for the City of Surakarta (Solo), the realization of Solo’s PAD is IDR 1.78 trillion. Thus, Gibran is entitled to a minimum operational allowance of IDR 600 million and a maximum of 0.15 percent of IDR 1.78 trillion.
