Jokowi opens his voice about Gibran becoming vice presidential candidate, here’s what he said News – 4 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has opened his voice regarding his eldest son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who is almost certain to be the vice presidential candidate (cawapres) accompanying Prabowo Subianto who will run as a presidential candidate (capres).

Jokowi’s statement regarding Gibran’s nomination as Prabowo’s vice president was made while attending the 2023 Santri Day rally in Surabaya, Sunday (22/10/2023).

“Ask, ask the political parties. That is the territory of political parties or coalitions of political parties or combinations of political parties, it is not the president’s business,” said Jokowi when asked by journalists about this, quoted from the Presidential Secretariat YouTube.

When asked whether Gibran had spoken about the nomination, Jokowi said that as a parent he could only pray and bless him.

“Yes, the parents’ job is to pray for and approve of everyone’s decisions. Because (children) are adults, don’t interfere too much in matters that have been decided by our children,” he said. “The old man just prayed and blessed.”

“Everything is suitable. Mr. Anies-Pak Muhaimin is suitable, Mr. Ganjar-Pak Mahfud is suitable, Mr. Prabowo is also suitable,” Jokowi answered with a laugh when asked about the current presidential and vice-presidential candidates.

Indications of Gibran becoming Prabowo’s vice presidential candidate strengthened after the Constitutional Court (MK) granted the lawsuit regarding the minimum age requirements for presidential candidates (capres) and vice presidential candidates (cawapres).

Now people under 40 years old can contest for RI 1 and RI 2, as long as they have served as regional head. This opened the door for Gibran to run as a candidate for Vice President.

Gibran’s candidacy was further strengthened after the Golkar Party officially nominated Jokowi’s eldest son as vice presidential candidate.

Gibran, who currently still serves as Mayor of Solo, is said to have visited a number of leaders of the Advanced Indonesia Coalition (KIM) party which endorsed Prabowo as president.
