Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The State Civil Service Agency (BKN) stated that simplifying bureaucracy was one of the priorities of President Joko Widodo’s second term government.

This simplification is not only aimed at eliminating fat organizational structures by transferring administrative officials to functional officials.

BKN Principal Secretary Imas Sukmariah emphasized that bureaucratic simplification was carried out by changing the work system.

“We need to pay attention, Bureaucratic Simplification does not only eliminate bureaucratic structures and transfer Administrative Officials to Functional Officials, but also needs to be done through changes to the work system,” said Imas in his speech at the Focused Discussion on the Implementation of Work Teams for Adjusting the New Work System which was held in Solo, on Friday (20/10/2023).

Imas said that simplifying bureaucracy aims to change the work system which has been too lengthy and resulted in slow decision making. By simplifying bureaucracy, he said, it is hoped that a work system will be created that supports dynamic and collaborative decision making.

“There are no longer any differences or levels between Structural Positions and Functional Positions,” he said.

He said the changes were aimed at improving performance and speeding up decision making. It is hoped that increased performance and fast decision making will have a positive impact on public services.

Imas said that bureaucratic simplification was carried out through the Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform Regulation Number 7 of 2022 concerning Work Systems in Government Agencies to Simplify Bureaucracy.

He said BKN would implement these regulations as a basis for implementing work system adjustments. “We hope that all participants in this activity will gain a harmonious understanding so that adjustments to the work system at BKN can run more effectively and efficiently,” said Imas.

Previously, President Joko Widodo or Jokowi through the PANRB Ministry had simplified the bureaucracy in 99 ministries and institutions. From the results of this simplification, there were 48,168 jobs simplified.

This simplification has been carried out from January to August 2023. The position cuts are also planned to be carried out in regional governments with 148,256 positions targeted for simplification.

Bureaucratic simplification was carried out to cut various long and complicated procedures and levels. In this way, it is hoped that ease of doing business and economic development can be created.
