Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Indonesia’s telecommunications infrastructure is still far behind neighboring countries. It can be seen from the fact that fixed broadband internet penetration has only reached 360 thousand km compared to the Philippines which reached 1.2 million km.
“Fixed broadband penetration is very minimal, 30% of the area of 514 city districts, 360 thousand km of fixed broadband. Compared to neighboring countries, perhaps the Philippines has 1.2 million km,” said General Chair of Apjatel (Telecommunications Network Providers Association), Jerry Mangasas Swandy in the program CNBC Indonesia ProfitsTuesday (17/10/2023).
For this reason, he encouraged collaboration to support the current Ministry of Communication and Information programs.
Jerry also emphasized that fixed broadband penetration could be carried out in eastern Indonesia. In the end, it could have an impact on the development of new eco-tourism in the 3T area.
“You can see the manifestation of Mr Jokowi’s message on digital transformation,” explained Jerry.
Development can no longer be concentrated only in big cities or regions such as Java and Sumatra. But it also spread throughout Indonesia.
For example, Jerry gave the example of opening new land for industrial areas in central or eastern Indonesia. That way, accessibility can be faster, more targeted and on target.
However, Jerry does not turn a blind eye to the many problems developing infrastructure in the eastern region. Starting from security and difficult regional topologies.
“Loading goods, preparing the helipad, loading people must be organized. Indeed, these things are special notes,” he said.
