Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Qualcomm has finally launched the newest premium chipset, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Its performance is predicted to beat the A17 Pro Bionic which is embedded in the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is equipped with the latest Kryo CPU which has 1 Prime core with a speed of up to 3.3 GHz, 5 Performance cores with a speed of 3.2 GHz, and 2 Efficiency cores with a speed of 2.3 GHz. These specifications promise a 30% increase in performance and 20% efficiency compared to its predecessor.
Meanwhile, the GPU on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 relies on Qualcomm Adreno with 25% better performance. This GPU is also more power efficient by up to 25%.
In general, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will provide a more comprehensive ‘flagship’ experience, both for taking pictures and videos, playing mobile games, and even leveling up artificial intelligence (AI) functions.
Xiaomi 14 is predicted to be the first cellphone to feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Not only that, Xiaomi 14 will also debut the HyperOS operating system to replace MIUI.
This cellphone is scheduled to launch in the near future. Some time ago, Xiaomi confirmed that the Xiaomi 14 would use a Leica camera, quoted from GSMArena, Wednesday (25/10/2023).
It is said that the Xiaomi 14 will use a Summilux lens from Leica which is predicted to have the best capabilities for smartphone products.
The Xiaomi 14 battery will reportedly have a capacity of 4,860 mAh with a fast charging feature of 90W with a cable and 50W without a cable.
Meanwhile, the Pro variant is said to use a 5,000 mAh battery with fast charging of 120W with cable and 50W without cable.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Beats A17 Pro Bionic
According to leaked test results on the Geekbench benchmark site, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 collected more scores than the A17 Pro Bionic in the multi-core test, namely 7494 versus 7288.
However, the A17 Pro Bionic is superior when tested single-core. The score is 2846 compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 which collected a score of 2207.
The Xiaomi 14 used has a RAM capacity of 16GB. Meanwhile, testing the A17 Pro Bionic using the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
From the technical specifications, the A17 Pro Bionic has 6 performance CPU cores with a speed of 3.78GHz and 2 efficiency CPU cores with a speed of 2.11GHz.
In theory, it’s quite surprising that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 can beat the A17 Pro Bionic. The reason is, the iPhone 15 Pro chip was built by TSMC with 3nm manufacturing. Meanwhile, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which is also built by TSMC, still uses 4nm manufacturing.
With smaller transistors on the 3nm process, the A17 Pro Bionic should be able to beat the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Its efficiency should also be higher.
However, there are other factors that determine Geekbench scores. For example, how resistant the device is to hot temperatures. Indeed, the score results on benchmark testing sites cannot be used as the main benchmark for determining the quality of a cellphone. However, at least this can be an illustration and consideration when buying a cellphone according to your needs.
