Differences in Symptoms of Monkey Pox and Chicken Pox, You Must Know! Lifestyle – 2 hours ago

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The case of chickenpox or monkeypox has become a major health issue after the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes RI) discovered another case of monkeypox in Jakarta on Thursday (12/10/2023).

One of the common symptoms of monkey pox and chicken pox is a rash appearing on the body. However, how do you differentiate the symptoms between monkey pox and chicken pox?

According to a dermatologist from the Indonesian Association of Skin Specialists (PERDOSKI), Dr. Dr. H. Prasetya Mawardi, SpKK, typical symptoms of chicken pox start from lesions that appear on the face and spread to almost all parts of the body.

According to Dr. Prasetya, this condition was not found in monkey pox patients. This is because relatively few lesions appear on the backs and bodies of monkey pox sufferers.

“Lesions due to monkey pox appear more often on the face or upper limbs or hands,” said Dr. Prasetya at the PB IDI press conference in 2022, quoted on Wednesday (25/10/2023).

Generally, monkey pox starts as raised spots that form small, fluid-filled blisters. Blisters caused by monkeypox virus infection then form scabs which will eventually fall off.

“In monkeypox, there are small patches and soon develop relatively dense, skin abnormalities, which indicate it is a viral infection, and are usually mostly spread over the face and hands,” explained Dr. Prasetya.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Health, dr. Mohammad Syahril, revealed that the typical symptom of monkey pox that cannot be found in cases of chicken pox is enlarged glands in the neck, armpits or groin.

“Incubation period [cacar monyet] It is divided into two, first the invasion period which ranges from one to five days. “Typical symptoms are high fever which is usually above 38 degrees Celsius, severe headache,” explained Dr. Syahril in the CNBC Indonesia TV Profit program in 2022, quoted on Wednesday (25/10/2023).

“And one typical symptom that differentiates it from other smallpox is the presence of enlarged glands in the neck, in the armpits and in the groin,” explained Dr. Syahril.

Then, the second incubation period, namely the eruption period, occurs after the sixth day and lasts up to 21 days. Meanwhile, the symptoms during the eruption period are red spots, rashes and smallpox filled with water.

“[Gejala tersebut] on the face, around the mouth, on the hands and feet,” said Dr. Syahril.
