Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – This afternoon, the upstream route between Sentolo Station – Wates Station is sterile and can be passed by trains at a speed of 40 km per hour. The first train to pass was the Argo Lawu train connecting Solo Balapan – Gambir at 11.35 WIB.
Previously, trains could not pass through this route due to the derailment of KA 17 Argo Semeru, the Surabaya Gubeng – Gambir connection at KM 520 + 4 road between Sentolo Station – Wates Station on Tuesday (17/10).
“KAI would like to thank all stakeholders involved in the process of normalizing the rail line between Sentolo – Wates. Currently one rail line can be passed at limited speed. A number of improvements to the rail line by strengthening the body of the railway continue to be carried out so that the second line can immediately operate is back,” said EVP of Corporate Secretary KAI Raden Agus Dwinanto Budiadji in his statement, Wednesday (18/10/2023).
After the Argo Semeru train derailed and was hit by the Argo Wilis train, KAI immediately attempted to carry out the process of evacuating facilities and repairing the rail line by involving dozens of its officers. In the process of evacuating the train series, KAI used 4 cranes, 1 helper train, and 1 MTT.
As for the cause of the train accident, KAI together with related parties such as the NTSC, Ministry of Transportation and the Police continue to investigate the cause of this accident.

As a result of this incident, several trains experienced delays in arrival, including:
1. KA 17 (Semeru), connection Surabaya Gubeng – Gambir arrives 00.35 late 295 minutes
2. KA 55 (Gajayana), connection Surabaya Gubeng – Gambir arrives 05.00 late 110 minutes
3. KA 9 (Argo Dwipangga), Solo – Gambir connection arrived 05.07 97 minutes late
4. KA 57 (Brawijaya), Malang – Gambir connection arrives 07.06 127 minutes late
5. KA 59 (Bima), connecting Surabaya Gubeng – Gambir, estimated to arrive at 09.44, 224 minutes late
6. KA 139 (Senja Utama Yogyakarta), connection Yogyakarta – Pasar Senen, arrived 01.43 40 minutes late
7. KA 87 (Senja Utama Solo), connection Solo – Pasar Senen, arrived 04.14 late 79 minutes
8. KA 103 (Singasari), connection Yogyakarta – Pasar Senen, arrived 07.07 58 minutes late
In providing compensation to passengers affected by this accident, KAI complies with Minister of Transportation Regulation (Permenhub) Number PM 63 of 2019 concerning Minimum Service Standards for Transporting People by Train, stating that compensation for intercity train delays is as follows:
1. If the train departure is more than 1 hour late, passengers can cancel the ticket and get a refund of the entire ticket cost. If not canceling the ticket, then:
a. Given soft drinks for delays of more than 1 hour.
b. Given drinks and heavy snacks for delays of more than 3 hours.
2. If an intercity train arrives late at the destination station, passengers receive:
a. Food and light drinks during the third hour of delay.
b. Heavy food and drink in the fifth hour of delay.
c. Passengers can choose to continue their journey or switch to another form of transportation and get their ticket money reimbursed.
3. If there are obstacles on the way, so that the train cannot continue to the destination station, the organizer is obliged to:
a. Providing trains or other transportation to the destination station.
b. Provide compensation for ticket value.
Regarding the affected victims, KAI noted that there were a total of 32 victims with minor injuries and all of them had been provided with health services, of which 4 people were being treated at the nearest hospital (3 of them were declared able to go home immediately and 1 other person was being investigated).
“KAI expresses its deepest apologies for this incident which was unwanted by all parties. KAI and related parties continue to make efforts to normalize routes so that travel can return smoothly,” concluded Agus.
