Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The government of Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed his concern about the war taking place between Israel and the Palestinian militant group, Hamas. Beijing said the conflict could spread to neighboring countries.
China’s special envoy for the Middle East, Zhai Jun, said Beijing was willing to do “whatever is conducive” to encouraging dialogue, reaching a ceasefire and restoring peace in the Middle East (Middle East). He also described the current situation as very serious.
“China views the situation in Gaza as very serious,” he warned Monday, quoted on Tuesday (24/10/2023).
“With the increasing risk of large-scale land conflict and because the conflict has begun to spread into the region,” said Zhai, explaining that currently the conflict has expanded to include the Hezbollah group in Lebanon and Syria, as published Reuters.
Zhai also said Beijing would continue to maintain close communication with the international community. Including Arab countries.
Reporting from CCTV, Zhai will plan to visit Saudi Arabia, Jordan and other countries in the region. Before his trip, Zhai is known to have had telephone calls with the heads of the foreign ministries of Palestine, Israel, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Norway, as well as with special representatives of the UN and the European Union (EU).
“China has and will continue to provide emergency humanitarian assistance to the Palestinians through the UN and bilateral channels to help alleviate the humanitarian crisis,” Zhai added.
China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning, also said the same thing. In a regular press conference, he said that Zhai planned to continue visiting “relevant parties in the Middle East” regarding the Israeli and Palestinian issues.
Meanwhile, the situation in Gaza itself has become increasingly heated in the last 24 hours. On Monday, at least 400 people were reported killed across Gaza, following relentless Israeli air strikes.
It was recorded that bombings occurred at 25 points in the Palestinian enclave. This Tuesday, in its latest update, the Gaza Health Ministry said that more than 5,000 people had been killed in Israeli attacks since October 7.
